Lighting the Path Less Taken

We just let a young stallion of ours go to a new home today. "JD" (Just Dandy) is a 6 year old pinto who we originally bought as a weanling as a driving horse and to use in our breeding program.

His jewels never dropped and his breeders went out of the business , so JD has been a pasture ornament.

The folks who now have him are old friends who we'd lost touch with for a few years. The wife is a big horse person and now her husband is interested in having his own horse.......but he's more comfortable having a mini and cart driving him, instead of riding.

They are willing to pay to have JD gelded, and so he's going to them for free. They have three kids ranging in age from 13 to 8 who are SO EXCITED about this. I am so thrilled that he's going to such a great home who is going to give him all the ONE on ONE attention that he wasn't getting with US.

I don't nag. That's not my way. But I do think Larry finally understands that we need to do this sort of thing with some of our horses -- if the home is the RIGHT FIT -- to reduce our numbers and give our fur-friends a better FOREVER home.

Interestingly, this also spurned an interest from them to get another boy from us. However, this one is already gelded and all we asked is if they would reimburse us for the gelding cost. But that's for another day......

I'm just happy for JD.........

I just love happy endings! Cutting back will make life and work so much easier and you may find yourselves another path as well as the horses. Like the rehab you are interested in! Congratulations!
