When they talk to you!

I have had so many signs and encounters in this year.  This last week being a bit sick I was very couch bound.  I lay one day and hear tap tap tap.  I look and see nothing.  A few seconds later tap tap tap..and I look to see a humingbird hovering outside my front window.  He's telling me "hells bells woman, I'm starving here" and I jumped up and mixed up the sweet food and hung the new feeder I had bought.  He sat on the dog run the whole time and waited while I got it done and hung it so I could see whilst laying down....soon as I walked into the house he was in it!  I didn't know hummingbirds could purrr but I swear he did. q5

See? They/we all need you to get well! That's a touching story. He knew you were inside your little nest & he needed you to come out. Wow.

Since we see hummersmove in super fast-motion, I wonder if they see us in slo mo, as we see sloths move ever so slowly.

I clipped Trig and Blue last weekend before I got really sick and the weather has  been so warm, I haven't needed to blanket them until the night before last.

I got a very strong message from Blue that he was chilly.  So at about 11:00 pm, i got dressed and went out to check on them.  It was a bit cool but not cold, however when I wrapped my arms around Blue he was lightly shivering.  Trig was as warm as toast but with most of the night to go I decided he should be blanketed as well and it would avert another late night call from him about being cold.  Ran their blankies through the dryer to get them nice and warm, bundled them up and we all had a comfortable night. The next morning Trig had ripped his blanket off, he HATES it, and had it in a wad in the corner but Blue was still happy to be warm.

They send me messages like that all the time, sometimes it's for things that can wait like treats, but when it comes to their comfort and/or safety I'm all ears.

I'm a bit mixed about feeding wild life though especially with Hummers.  My mom used to keep them fed but i remember one of her Audobon Society friends said to not do it because they can become too dependent on it.  If you stop for any length of time after they are accusomed to the hand out, they are not inclined to forage right away and can get too weak in a very short time because of their extrememly high metabolism and end up starving.  But I'm sure they will try to talk you into it.  <wink>

Ha ha, I have a group of hummers who come each year and nest in my wild cherries.  They head south when the weather gets cold enough and then come home in the spring.  Being sick I was late with their sweet water.  I hadn't heard that tho Shirley regarding the hummingbirds.  I feed all birds thru winter then stop about May 1st unless it keeps snowing!

I had heard that about hummers.  It always made me afraid to get them started coming to me.  Instead i try to plant as many bright colored flowers as I can get to grow.  Usually have a few that way.
