They ARE listening

Even when you don't realize your furkids are tuned in to you, they are. Here's my proof for today. Ursa gives me something every day, but this one is so apparent.

I went into the kitchen to get Ursa some "new water."  I didn't say anything about it. I found myself washing dishes, making eggs & hashbrowns, cleaning the countertops, etc.  I was facing the window at one point & not looking at Ursa, but I found myself saying outloud that "gees, all I wanted here was to get you some new water!" And I didn't say her name.

I continued finishing what I had started (the other stuff). My breakfast was ready at last. I piled it on my plate & headed towards the dining room. There was Ursa, looking very dejected. I asked her what was wrong.

She got up sadly & went & put her mouth into the bucket of "old water."  I said outloud "Oh my! I forgot! I'm so sorry!"   She had been waiting so patiently & I had just plain forgot.

I put down my plate. Got her bucket, cleaned it & gave her "new water." She immediately drank. I went on my way, shaking my head.

Then she did something else very shortly that kept me in line. I've said to her again & again that she really has me well trained. And she does. But I don't mind. The 2-way communication makes it all easier & more fun.

A very good friend said to me a few months ago that she is glad she's not so connected to her dogs as I am to Ursa. She's a very "aware" person & I couldn't believe she said that. It still puzzles me. She loves her dogs deeply.

Hey you know I believe in Ursa....hug her for me.  Good dog!  We could use a nice new pic of her highness.
Time Traveler

You know I welcome any chance to get Ursa's mug out there. The first pic shows how vicious the pit bull naturally is. She would do this whenever she approached the babies, letting them know they had nothing to fear. She loved it! There could be 4 babies pickin' at her & she loved every minute.

Sharing secrets:

She thot the adult horses were ok, but the babies! Oh, the babies!

Ursa wearing the charms you sent to her last year:

Oh kiss  q13  the pretty baby Oh how I love her.....that secrets pic should be submitted for a contest!  She's due for some new pretty, I'll have to get busy!

I don't know if I told you, but the necklace & bracelet you recently sent is "full of you."  I show it to her (still in the box) and she sniffs & sniffs, the whole time smiling & waging her tail, gently. She loves you too Debs. I know this is real silly to most people, but I'll place the necklace on her for a short time while she's sitting in front of me. She loves it!! Areyou sure you didn't send the necklace for her & the bracelet for me? You said she helped design it!
Sage/Debs

She did help me design it.  I saw those beads and thought of you as Lavender of Fleet and gosh the design just wouldn't come to me so I'd walk away and come back time and again.
I said, "Ursa!!! could use a little help here for mom".and I sat down and they just went together!  I would LOVE to see her in that necklace!  It does suit her doesn't it! q5 Maybe that's why it went together so well, she wanted it! q5  and you can clean me right out of that set if you want to my friend. But I do love that furchild of yours and making that for you was my great pleasure! and it was Ursa's.  I swear she was a soothsayer in another life!

Now this dog is totally in love with you.....oh yeah, I can see it in her eyes in the last picture.  It's so good you have a dear friend to share your life with and that she has you too.

Thanks for sharing her with us.

Ok, debs, here's Ursa in her "jewelry," which is also what she calls her everyday collar.

Here she is after it was taken off. She's catching more of "you" from it.

BooBoo

Oh Lord, what an amazing dog!  Just want to HUG her!

(Are you sure she wasn't a PERSON in a previous life?)
Sage/Debs

Ursa is a person q18  and I gotta tell you, she influenced that design for herself!  I see it on her and she loves it, sorry bout that but maybe she'll share!  I have that pic on my desktop, you just made my day!  Tell her thank you and I love her too.
For those who don't know TT loves amber and I found this bit of "baltic amber" and had to have it, not quite amber amber but still quite nice.
BooBoo

Obviously Ursa loves amber too!  q2

I love this thread and Ursa is just ADORABLE!!

And me, more of a cat person too!!

My first job when I left school was as an animal nurse in a vet surgery.

I found it really easy to tune in with the animals, interpret their body language and understand what "that look" meant.

I would talk to them and get responses too, not in English obviously, but a purr, a tilt of the head, a bark, a lick, a snuffle .........

From those days onwards I always argue when people say that animals don't understand what is said to them - because they bloomin' well do!

I always reply "Just people animals can' SPEAK English, doesn't mean they can't UNDERSTAND it."

I've been touched by more than one special furry friend, I feel blessed whenever I come into contact with animals  q24

I agree Sara........

Sometimes our fur friends will do a combination of communication -- both telepathically and with body language and sounds........ Sometimes "hearing" them is all of the above or one thing can lead to another.  Hope that makes sense.
Sage/Debs

oh yes, I will never forget Ursa telling TT she was full of happy!!! at times they do "speak"!
SilverWolf

I am so glad someone else mentioned telepathy!

The times animals have done what I refer to as "borrow my mind" so that for a few seconds I feel how the animal is feeling which I can then put into human spoken English on their behalf - well, when I was at the vets I lost count, it happened all the time.

The most touching case of this though was when I knew a lady who bred Chow Chow dogs.

One particular dog wasn't "performing" in the show ring, was always sickly and just didn't have any interest.

The lady who had him was talking about having him put down because he was "useless" and costing her lots of money in vets bills for one ailment after the other.

I looked at the dog sat mournfully in his kennel and he looked back at me.  Things went a bit "blurry" for a few seconds but in those few seconds I felt an overwhelming sadness and sense of rejection.

I then turned to the breeder and said "He's not sick - he's lonely!"

I offered to visit the dog every Sunday afternoon and take him out for walks.

During our walks I would talk to him, often stop just to give him a cuddle, tell him what a handsom boy he was, and just focus all my attention on him.

The breeder was amazed.  This dog went from strength to strength.  He got better and came off all the drugs the vets had him on, his coat shone, there was a sparkle in his eye and a real spring in his step.

He was rehomed to another family who adore him and take him everywhere with them, but if it wasn't for that brief moment of telepathy, his story would have had a very different ending.
