Surprising myself stillSome of you know I channel poetry, medieval poetry that is.
Right now a poem/war song is coming to me over the past week. Sometimes, it's almost an instant saga, other times, it takes longer. Actually, right now it's my fault it's taking longer: no time to transcribe.
Anyway, I found myself using the phrase "dogs of war." I wondered if this phrase was, indeed, in period. So, I researched it a little. Here's what I found:
Dogs of War is first seen in the "Black Book of the Admiralty of 1385, a collection of laws, in French and Latin, relating to the English Navy. In the 'Ordinances of War of Richard II"
Well, I'll be darned! Still amazes me every time, like so much else I take for granted, until I'm awakened once again.

Ah wondrous good my friend, did you allow the other to be written to song at Pennsic? Keep listening, you have grown so much!

Sulis -- Sorry, I do keep them very private, with a few exceptions. I hope to one day put them together in a published book. Kind of a medieval life by those who lived it. One of my dreams. I'd be glad to talk about the process tho. BTW, my persona is British, circa 1300 or so.
Sage -- No, he didn't make it a song for Pennsic. Not enough time.
He plans to perform it at Saxon Summer next month, when we have a bardic circle around the campfire after feast. I can't wait.
In the afternoon, there is a class on performing poetry and song in the medieval fashion (which I might take) and I might use another one for a performance. - Would be my FIRST performance with this sort of thing!! -- Don't know if I have the nerve. these people are soooooooooo good at what they do. I might just watch.

Nah, no flute. Actually, my silver flute iisn't period. They didn't come along until after the 1500's, which is the end of SCA period. :( But I'm excited to have the oporunity to learn from a Class A bard. I might stay after feast to participate in the bardic circle - if I have the nerve. We'll see!!
