anyone want to share how to teach & learn their Reiki leNow mind Reiki "IS", but the methods of introducing and teaching varies with each Master/Teacher/Guide I would say.'
I am a new one to teaching. I do love it, all my life I wanted to teach and guide but didn't quite know what until the last few years.
What do you think?

I do each differently, but this is the gist of it.
For a reiki 1 class;
I ask what each knows of reiki, what they expect of it, why they want an attunement.
Then I tell of Dr Usui, explain what reiki is and what it can be used for.
Teach grounding and protecting and explain why it is necessary.
Then I do the attunement.
After I suggest the pupil places her/his hands on my back to let the reiki flow.
Talk about the attunement, anything seen, heard, how she/he feels.
I give the manual I have made along with the certificate.
My manual includes hand positions, so they can practise if they want to.
Following day we do hand positions and answer any questions .
I don't charge for healing or attunements, but do accept a small gift as an energy exchange.
I also give my mobile number and email address in case I am needed cos I will always be the pupils master :)
I also recommend he/she buys Diane Steins book Essential Reiki.
edited to add. I didn't see this yesterday, or I would have answered then :)

And ........... we have about three or four breaks.
Including lunch.
I have only ever done one person at a time, usually friends and family.

Thanks for sharing that Mia. I am always so interested in all folks ways. Being a bit "different" I bring my ways into the lessons but impress on them that one must find one's own way to ground, shield, and turn Reiki on, so to speak. Some love the ceremony of it and bring to that their own flavor so to speak.
Right now I have a student/seeker that I am guiding online. Yup...online. We meet each Sunday morning via Yahoo Messenger, discuss what we shall do today, exhange questions and ideas, then she goes and lays down and I send a Distance Reiki to her. Then when she is ready, we connect via phone to discuss it and any further questions and feelings, as well as sharing. We discuss how the surrogate is working for them.
I have my manual ready finally and another I like for the older plain of thought and I interject my thoughts and feelings throughout it. I also provide a wonderful book for each student..."Light on the Origins of Reiki" by Tadeo Yamaguchi with a forward by Frank Arjava Petter. The history in this book is wonderful and truly gives the reader a feeling of the "older original Reiki". I highly recommend this book.
Each week we delve further into Reiki, how to do it, how to receive and send it. I do not teach the hand positions but provide them so the seeker has them if they desire to work that way. I try to encourage the trust in the Reiki and one's hands to travel the body or not...sometimes hands on one place is enough..Reiki goes where it is needed..we are the channel or vessel....more to come

Just for today I am free of worry
Just for today I am free of anger
Just for today I am grateful and humble
Just for today I live honestly
And just for today I respect all living things

My Reiki Missive for Students (feel free to critique)# Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word representing universal life energy, the energy which is all around us. It is derived from rei: meaning "free passage"and ki: meaning "vital life force energy".
#
The Japanese art of Reiki was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in 1922 when he went on a meditation and fasting retreat to Mount Kurama in Kyoto. Since that time, Reiki has spread all over the world, giving joy and happiness to millions of people from all races, religions and social backgrounds.
I have decided to share much of the things I share with my students and seekers here, mind; this is not gospel but all is true to my knowledge and experience. Each Reiki Master/Teacher has their own way of teaching....I hope you'll enjoy this bit of mine and if you have any questions or comments please feel free to share them.
This “manual” (I smile)…is very informal and may not have as much as others but, it holds within it the purity and truth of Reiki without the frills and ego. Take what you wish, learn all you can, then make it your own in goodness and beauty and heal.
Reiki Principles
Dr. Usui gave us the Reiki Life Principles to help orient our mind toward a more conscious life. He recited them each day, used them as “affirmations” with his students.
Just for today…do not anger
Just for today…do not worry
Just for today…be grateful
Just for today...work hard
(in the sense of putting your heart & soul into all things you do)
Just for today…be kind to others.
~~~~~
Each morning (and night if you can) sit in the Gassho position and repeat these words, let them echo in your mind and heart.
Gassho
Very simply, Gassho is a way to ground and center your very loud and busy mind and body. Sit comfortably on a mat or chair, bring the palms of your hands together palm to palm with the pressure mostly at the tips of your middle finger and hold them at about chest level but not resting on your body
(if you can’t hold your arms away, this is fine. Some even rest the tips of their fingers at the chin…pure intent is more important than form)
Everybody breathes you would think BUT in truth, most do not. Oh they live and breathe but to truly “breathe” one must find one’s center...one’s Tantien.
Your “tantien” is located about 3 fingers below your navel. Place your hand softly there and breathe in through your nose...does your tummy lift? Probably not...most folks breathe in their upper chest, ribs and even then very shallow. I want you to close your eyes and breathe in gently trying to fill yourself gently with real breath. Try to fill all of you gently, bronchials, lungs, and your tantien. If you do it right, your tummy will lift! Then slowly breathe out through soft pursed lips. Do this several times and you should feel a relaxation fill you...a feeling of being centered and calm.
“Now” you are ready to learn and experience Reiki and join me in the wonderful journey towards your first set of attunements to Level One.
I am a bit of different guide/teacher than some. I would like very much for you to go find a nice surrogate...a stuffed bear or nice pillow, something you can practice on. Each day I will fill your surrogate with Reiki energy as I do a nightly Reiju/Reiki to help guide and fill you with light and Reiki energy.
I do “not” teach the hand positions you will find in other manuals (I do provide them) but ask you to trust your hands and your energy to traverse you, your surrogate or whom ever you have in hand to help. Hand positions were taught to help with focus and large classes in Japan, for organizing and keeping the class together…Reiki works if you wish it, intent is all, use the hand positions if they speak to you, or trust your hands to glide and speak...it is your choice. We call this "Byosen.
I encourage you to spend time on the computer looking around and reading as much as you can about “Reiki, Reiju, attunements and the history of Dr. Makao Usui”.
I’ll provide some great links in a bit.
First I will endeavor to answer a few basic questions most seekers ask...in brief.
*What is Reiki?
I believe Usui’s purpose was to teach/share Reiki to help people fulfill their lives in peace and happiness, to give them physical and mental and spiritual health. In doing this they can enhance the happiness and wellness of those around them by healing not only themselves but others they encounter in poor health. Reiki does “heal”.
*What does Reiki help?
Reiki is effective for treating/healing all kinds of illness, both physical and psychological. (emotional, mental, spiritual)Pain management, depression, grief, injury, burns, and on and on…Reiki can help in all things, with all things.
*Can Reiki only heal the sick?
No, it is effective for treating illness and sickness and injury but also heals trauma to mind as well as body. Reiki can help with shyness, living a life of insecurity, depression, and more. Reiki can only do good, it can never do harm. By learning Reiki you heal yourself and can heal others, this brings great joy and peace to you and those you share with.
*Should this “Healing Ability” be limited to a select few?
I smile. No...it is in the sharing and teaching and learning that we expand ourselves and others. One at a time we help the world feel well, feel better and stronger, and in that… peace and hope can fill our world. Pass it on…is what Reiki is…life energy… Reiki embodies this ability, this power and is available for everyone to learn and then practice with the proper guidance and attunement. Anyone with hope and desire to help themselves and/or others can learn and practice Reiki healing.
*What does it feel like?
Ah well each individual feels Reiki differently. Some do not “feel” much at all but do feel the effects it brings to their bodies, minds, and spirits. Others will feel warmth, sometimes intense heat, some feel coolness, a tingling or pulsing has also been felt. It truly depends on how you, the practitioner, and the Reiki blend with who you touch…thus my suggesting the bear/pillow surrogate, tho you can use your own body. He, or she will heat or cool or pulse just a human body would. You come to the Reiki with pure intent. Make the bear “your body” and begin.
Now we will begin a bit of practice. Here we are in this 21st century full of amazing technology. I wonder what Usui would have thought of utilizing the telephone, the computer and even web cams to teach and share his hopes and dreams that were, that are...Reiki?
What I like to do is take a bit of time each week, if not each day, and share with each other. You already know your surrogate is filled each night with Reiki and you (hopefully) have sat with it either that night or the next day and tried to become one with it as your hands touch it, so that the energy flows into you from the surrogate. As you touch the neck of the teddy your own neck grows warm, so to speak. Ok?
Then by email or Yahoo Messenger , or even by phone, if you feel drawn to...contact me and we can discuss how you came to feel it and what it brought it to you. Most Level One students have a hard time with "how do I turn it on?"
By practicing with the surrogate you get the feeling of bringing it into you, your hands may get warm or pulse or tingle. Now we'll do this for about 6 weeks, some less, some more. Each week, for one hour on a certain day, we will have our actual class be it in person, by phone, or IM, even by cam on the computer. We will have our questions and answer time, I will practice a bit of sending and you receive and share your feelings. Then I will ask you to go lie down or sit comfortable and I will send you a distance Reiki. Use all I have explained in the beginning to calm and relax then just let it be. Later that day or the next, contact me again and we'll discuss your feelings and questions. Mind you lay quiet after feeling the session fade, take time to come back to yourself and breathe before getting up. Drink lots of water, eat a lite snack maybe and reflect on how you feel, what you felt.
I encourage you to read everything you can get hold of be it a book, an online site to get a well rounded picture of Reiki. You will find some who will say” their” Reiki is the only way. I smile, Reiki """IS"! Usui wanted a pure energy to help and to heal. If your intent is pure, you can't do it wrong… remember Reiki can do no harm.
I will include some links to places I think you would enjoy reading. I enclose several writings from others as well as my own, and a book titled Light on the Origins of Reiki. Reiki has no "EGO" There is no place for it. Reiki and you become one, you are the vessel, the channel for the energy from Source, there is no need to work at it, it never drains your own energy, there is always enough, like love, to go around.
You will find when your hands "come on" they will travel the body and wish to stop now and then, allow them to do this. Trust your own instincts (called Byosen). Allow your hands to remain if they wish to stop, they may get warm or hot, pulse or tingle...then.all this will slow or cool and you will know to move on.
ALSO...know that Reiki will go to where ever it needs to go even if you touch only one part of yourself or another. Practice, practice, practice...you can Reiki the water, the Earth, a tree, the flowers, your stones & crystals, your bed, your office, your pets, your family, friends and do mind yourself as well. Reiki heals mind, body, and soul/spirit. It can help in the well rounded person and the person in great distress.
Oftimes a physical malady is manifested by an emotional or spiritual disharmony. Grief is a huge one for putting things out of whack, as are stress and depression.
I bring this manual (gosh I hate that word), this missive...(I smile) to you just like we were talking together. Reiki has such wonderful history and you should read it and try hard to know some of it...so you can appreciate how it came to be. I’ll provide a book for you to read that has (in my opinion) THE pure truthful history of Reiki and the lineage that brought us here.
What is lineage? Well that is our family tree of Reiki beginning with Dr. Usui, then forward to his masters, to the masters from them and forward to us. Your (our) lineage will be provided at the end of your First Level Attunement to Reiki.
but go look about there is so much info on line, just remember, “we are not” Source, God, Spirit, call it what you will. Reiki is pure intent and energy, it uses us as the vessel not US. It should never drain your or make you feel depleted. If it does you aren't trusting in the Reiki energy to heal and help yourself and others. Through the trust and faith you can and will help and be helped.
A couple wonderful forums I suggest you check out and join if you want to continue to learn and live Reiki:
well its very straight forward really, Reiki 1 has 4 attunements but no symbols to teach.
Reiki 2 has only 2 attunements but 3 symbols, 2 easy one more complex.
both could be done in a day but if you want to do treatments on them and have them do treatments on you, allow plenty of time for questions etc then 2 days would make for a more relaxed and even less stressed time.
they know they have the evening to let things sink in, AND they have some time on their own to discover what feelings may come up and know they can ask you the second day, which may be a week later or even a month.
when i had my Reiki 2 i had two days, the second day we just went over the same as the day before, but somehow the symbols were allready in my head, she was quite suprised how easily i had remembered them, expecting me to struggle a little when first thing she asked me to draw them on the board.
but not everyone learns the symbols so easily, i have even had a student disagree with me on how to pronounce a symbol - whose teacher here. in the end i let her pronounce it her way as it is the intent that really matters.
R1
i do an attunement, then i do a treatment, then another attunement then lunch. then a further attunement then they have to give me a treatment then the last attument.
or 1 attunement in the morning treatments and discussions through the day. Second attunement in the afternoon, then the next day the same.
R2 one attument each day and i teach the two easy symbols the first day and then concentrate on the distant symbol on the second day.
we do distant Reiki together. if i have more then one student i send them away with instructions to send to each other and to give each other feedback.
