Another "out of control" dream?

Here's one for you'all........I wouldn't post it, but it's one that has stayed with me.

I'm at a version of the home I grew up in with some modifications. The back stairs going off the kitchen to the outside are OUTSIDE. (The actual stairs are indoors.)  My dad's second wife is in it and she has decorated the bedrooms differently.  My dad, my mother, my "stepmother", Larry, Brianna are present. None are actively involved in the dream, but are there.

In the side and back yard, which is on a hill, are two of our dogs and our mini gelding, Rider.

In the dream a huge wall of water comes crashing through part of the second floor and also through the yard outside. All of us (humans) are okay, but our dogs get swept up.  I run down the outside staircase and my dog, Shed, manages to swim to me. The water is flowing up to the bottom steps.   Larry's dog, Randy, is swept under at first, but eventually comes up and is safe.

It's our old gelding, Rider, who is under water.  He is laying on his side and I can't get to him.  The water is very deep and still moving. There's a feeling of frustration and helplessness because I can't get him to respond.

I woke up before I was able to save him.

Is this another version of an "out of control" dream???
Time Traveler

I sometimes have dreams of flooding and in them, I am always at the water's will. I have no control over the situation. I am terrified. I am overwhelmed. I'd say, yeah, out of control dream.

But, then I really did grow up on a river island that is 5 miles long & 1/2 mile wide. We really did have floods. Once saw my schoolmate going down the street between our houses in a canoe. Other neighbors were in rowboats.

But, IMHO, I'd say flooding dreams are out of control dreams.  Even tho my flooding dreams have a basis in reality, I can relate to what you are saying. I think that because you got the dogs back, you might feel that you have some control in the situation. But not getting Rider back, says you don't have total control?  Just a guess.

I must say I feel for you. Floods are horrible, and make you feel helpless, even in dreams.  -- TT

p.s.  I was just thinking about the stairs being outside, instead of inside. Maybe you feel that whatever the real situation might be, it's now (in your head) apparent to others, instead of just being inside with the family?  You know, the world seeing your ups and downs?

Rider is our older 33 inch fellow we have had for over 15 years....He is at least 21 now.  He's one of those bomb-proof steady fellows that you can take anywhere, let anyone drive cart with, allow a small child to get on his back, etc....etc....  When Larry and I ever start totally selling off our herd, Rider is one of three or four we would keep forever and ever......

My memory of seeing him laying on his side under water.....his mouth open, it still haunts me.
