I have always heard that dreams occur when a person enters the REM state. I also believed that this state doesn't occur until a person is asleep for some time.
Well, not ME!! If I fall asleep for one minute, I am dreaming. Vivid dreams. (My dreams are ALWAYS vivid, no matter when they happen.) I know that sometimes it really is just one minute because I've looked at the digital alarm clock just a minute before I fell asleep & I happen to look at it again when I awake. Yep == just one minute gone by & I'm full of dreams. No waiting.
Anyone else do this? Experiences welcome..........tt

Yes! I think there are different kind of dreams......or perhaps dream states. One is during REM sleep. The other is when we are more in an Alpha state.
I just don't think there is a hard and fast rule. The sleep specialists just don't know enough about the human brain........considering they admit we only use a percentage of it and don't yet know what the rest is for!

happens to me all the time! I'm a major clockwatcher whenever I wake up....I have my most vivid and bizarre dreams in those super short periods where the alarm wakes me and I set it to snooze for 5 minutes. In those 5 minutes I can have some seriously strange dreams and they seem soooooooo long! Time seems to go by at the normal pace and sometimes hours/days go by in my dreams and then the alarm goes off again and I know it's only been 5 minutes. Always strange.....

Sorry I missed this. Kathy I am clock watcher also thru the night wierd! I call them transitional dream states....they are the baggage of life that fly thru, then as we settle and fall into dream state they may (or may not) become part of the dreams.
Mine, of late, have been very graphic and unsettling, last night I was to a party that changed to a hostage situation then changed to a funeral, all the same people, and before I was awakened by Kasha I was loading a 22 with bullets, howz that for bizarre!

Sulis -- Don't know if you've actually "forgotten" or if it's just the time difference factor, but here's your reminder! thanks. -- TT
