Last week just at dusk, a couple pulled up to our place. (Larry was gone) They said they saw a hawk being driven down to the road just above our place by a group of smaller birds.  It didn't move.  So, they scooped it up and threw it into the bed of their truck!  They figured since we were a farm we would know what to do!

I grabbed my barn gloves and picked her up. She allowed me carry her and put her in an extra Parrot Cage we had sitting out on our porch. (We put our birds outside on warm days.) After a short time she even accepted my syringing water into her beak and ate some wet dog food I offered.

Fortunately, Larry works for a local Observatory which is connected to a "Nature Center".  I called them and they told me to bring her down.  It is illegal for private citizens to have birds of prey.

The bird Rehab person there explained to me that our hawk was a young female and had been separated from her family just a week or so too soon.  He also taught me how to hold her properly.

Larry got home just in time to take part in our "Lady Hawke's" release yesterday (Sunday).

Our Sage here is very connected to Hawks......Her animal totem?  So I wanted to make sure she saw all of the Release Photos that Larry took.

We took her back up close to where she was found in the Carrier that the Nature Center provided.  After I tipped her out, she bolted and flew smack into a nearby fence!  I had a piece of raw chicken with me and was able to coax her up the fence to the top and over to the fence post.  From there she got her bearings.........Looked East.......and Flew.  It was then we realized there was a big nest on our neighbor's property about a quarter mile away..........She knew where she was going.......

Below is (hopefully) the link to the photobucket album of what happened.

I think they are so so beautiful.  We have a couple of pair in the area and we hear them calling sometimes.  They hunt in and around our meadow area a lot.  Dencil thinks they have got a kitten or two ,but I told him not to worry they liked the small birds, rabbits and mice much better.I love to watch them glide .You guys did good q13   Gonna try for a wild life rehab permit??

That's so terrific, Boo!  Now don't you believe the universe knew where to send that injured bird?  I do!! Good on you for doing that....not everyone would or could.
