This is a lovely link: http://www.linsdomain.com/totems.htm
HAWK
Power, Magic, Messenger
Hawk is the messenger, the protector and the visionaries of the Air.
It holds the key to higher levels of consciousness.
This totem awakens vision and inspires a creative life purpose.
A Hawk totem is filled with responsibility
because Hawk people seek the overall view.
They are aware of omens and spirit messages.
A Red-Tailed Hawk Totem is special.
It has direct ties to the Kundalini, the seat of primal life force.
It is associated with the base chakra .
If you have this Totem, you will be aware of and work towards fulfilling your soul's purpose.
It reflects a greater intensity of energy within your life:
physical, emotional, mental and spiritual forces will all be strong within you.
The Red-Tail Hawk is a permanent totem -- it will always be with you.
It is associated with the number "14" with the Tarot card Temperance.
This card represents the teaching of higher expressions of psychic ability and vision.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SQUIRREL
Chatter, scold, creature bold,
Warning all by your call.
Discovery, change, bring within my range.
Warnings as free, send to me.
Gathering, Activity, Preparedness
The gathering power of Squirrel is a great gift.
It teaches us balance within the circle of gathering and giving out.
They remind us that in our quest for our goals,
it is vital to make time for play and socializing.
Squirrel teaches us to conserve our energy for times of need.
If your totem is Squirrel or Squirrel has recently entered your life,
lighten your load of things that are unnecessary
things that you have gathered in the past and may be cluttering your life
thoughts, worries, and stresses.
Squirrel is also the totem of action.
Ask yourself are you too active, not active enough, afraid of enough,
hung up on accumulating and collecting.
Squirrel people tend to be a little erratic trying to do many things at once.
Take the time to stop and listen to your inner self and dont forget to play!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I forgot to play and enjoy, to look beyond the obvious to the signs.
As I said on another thread here, I had an interesting and challenging week. Alot of "woe is me and worse"....having been sick (which I do poorly) and then the snow came and I whined instead of seeing it for the beauty and gift it was, then the power went out, aww gee wiz I thot.
I was letting the baggage of life and others start a small ball of worry and I know better.
Saturday night I lay abed not being able to fall asleep. I spoke to my guide, my dear Sahyeesha, she was in her blue blanket and rocked before a fine fire scowling at me. I finally found sleep and within it the answers.
Hawk has been my friend for many many years and here he was flying everywhere I went trying to show me I was taking life too serious and neglecting me, while squirrel was running around working to prepare for life but having fun, I just was at a stand still. Foolish child, I was told quite firmly.
I awoke Sunday morning to beautiful blanket of white. Yes, it was cold but not..if you know what I mean. I made my tea and drew a chair to the big french windows so I could watch the stream flow and the trees in their lovely gowns of pure white. As I sipped, I saw my friend, the black squirrel. Here the blacks are tormented by their red and gray relatives. They are not a normal squirrel, but a derivitive, and so I love them because so am I.
So as I sat I said, "I understand,to be different and to walk to my own rhythm is fine even when times get muddled. I smiled, thinking I had understood the lesson......however.....this is when a streak of brown and red flew like lightning to snatch up the squirrel as he played. In an instant it was over. I stood right up, oh no, but then I smiled. Life and death is a circle, life and work get us round it.
Hawk being the energy and force and hope within me, squirrel showing me to prepare and not be so down. Spirit made me ill to make me (yes make me) stop. Now the ears hurt as of yesterday because did I listen? No but I am now.
Last night my son built a fine fire and we did a sweat. 4 times to the heat and cold. He was a good watcher my son. I went to bed at midnight and slept like I had not for over a week. I dreamt the visions given to me when I sat for my mediation after the hawk and the squirrel.
I know what to do now. I got a bit carried away and full of myself. I am humbled and ready to walk my talk once again in beauty and with the harmony of Earth and Spirit. Sometimes we need a good cuff upside the head, then we have the aha! moment. I was so worried about money, things being perfect, what would the future bring, other peoples thots and actions, that I neglected my faith and trust in Spirit and how things always work out. That from a pound of worry never an ounce of cure makes.
SO once out of my cave in a few days many changes come. I am thankful for the talking to I recieved in the visions and the sweats. I am thankful for the hawk and squirrel for teaching life has it's path, who am I to say I am in control, haha. All I need do is flow and believe and walk the work and life I have chosen and do it....in beauty quietly. The word "quietly" being the key word.
I hope you don't mind the sharing, mind your own signs, changes are coming, big changes and we need to be ready to fill the void that approaches with light. In greatness we need to walk BUT in very humble shoes. No crowing and strutting with what we find or cannot find but in a subtle glow like a candle in a dark place. No forces or huge loud epiphanies, but enlightenment that feels like "we are the light" and "we are the warm soft blanket" for the others who seek in worry and fear eh?
I hope you walk in beauty and if not that you will listen and heed the signs from your guides, your angels, even your totems..they usually have a great deal to say if we just stop! and listen and watch. I do not mourn the poor squirrel, he fed the hawk, now the hawk can keep showing the messages only he has in and with life. Find your story.....
Humbly
Sahje

What a lot of lessons learned, my friend. Thank you for sharing them. And by doing so, it's making me stop and look and listen at some things here.......
The Cycle of Life can be harsh, but our fur and feathered friends understand so much more than we.
After some thought I'd add more here than on the "Your Journey" site.....
Frankly, what you witnessed was A GIFT. It was an intimate moment of Give and Take. How many people have that opportunity to see that?
