Seeing as the new moon comes this Saturday, I felt the Moonstone was a good stone to bring back...seems last October I chose it too as I looked back. Everyone should own at least one of these wonderful stones.
Moonstone is a stone of “new beginnings”. As the name suggests, it is closely associated with the moon and intuition. Like the moon, the stone is reflective and reminds us that, as the moon waxes and wanes, so is everything is part of a cycle of life and change.
It’s most powerful effect is that of calming the emotions, promoting intuition, empathy, vivid dreaming, and she can enhance psychic abilities. Moonstone helps balance the male and female energies that are inside all of us, and soothes emotional insecurity and stress.
“Physically”, it provides deep healing to the disorders so often caused in the upper digestive tract that can be caused by stress. Often called “the woman’s stone”, it is excellent for PMS, conception issues, pregnancy, childbirth, and breast feeding. Moonstone can be used to prevent sleep walking and help with sleep disorders like insomnia, night terrors or bad dreams. Moonstone helps eliminate toxins and fluid retention and heals degenerative conditions of the skin, hair, eyes, and fleshy organs ie. the liver and pancreas.
Moonstone is also called the "traveler's stone" and, as such, is useful for those who travel or work on or near the water. It is said that the moonstones will shimmer more strongly during a full moon and will be at their most potent to work with, either healing or as a wishing stone. Then, as the moon wanes, so does the stone's intensity, becoming more gentle in its applications.
Moonstones placed in a dish in one's home will help to ease daily tensions among family members. It is also said to regulate one's body clock, especially if you do shift work or extensive traveling. There is no better calming stone for hyperactive children.
Moonstone is a lustrous gemstone of the feldspar group, composed of potassium aluminum silicate. It has a 6.5 to 7 rating on the Mohs scale of hardness. It is translucent and has a shimmering, iridescent quality. Moonstone is found in Australia, Sri Lanka, India and the United States.
Many cultures revere the moonstone for its healing and metaphysical properties.
The Romans attributed the stone to all moon goddesses, but especially Selene and Aphrodite. It was thought to have fallen from the sky during the full moon.
The Lakota Indians attribute the moonstone to the mother, new beginnings and balancer of emotions. It is the totem stone for the time of the "Strong Winds Moon" or those born from February 11 to March 10.
Moonstones are found in many soft pastel colors, green, pink, melon, as well as white or beige, then there's rainbow moonstone too..a dramatic rainbow white.
This is one of my favorite stones I encourage you to read all you can on websites about this great stone.
