Don't know what category to use, so.....There is an odd thing in my "new" house. There is a smudge that appears on a bathroom wall.

It is just to the left of the mirror above the sink. It seems to be black soot or smoke of some sort. Thing is, there's nothing there that would produce such a mark. There's no heat source or chimney on either side of the wall (plaster wall or inner wall). There's also no mark on the other side in the next room. No way anything could some how "blow" over there either.

I wipe the smudge away. It stays gone for a few weeks, then I notice that it's back again. Here's some pix. I did the best I could without using a flash. The 2nd is as close as I could get. It's about 6-7 feet up on the wall. The bathroom is a recent addition (5 years or less) to the 1916 house. So, this bathroom wall was originally an outdoor wall.

do you ever burn candles in the bathroom?

if you don't then maybe a resident of the house did and that is what it is. Yes I am suggesting it is a ghosts candle manifesting soot on your wall

No, never candles in the bathroom, or in the adjoining room. I'm leaning towards your suggestion. As some here know, I'm the first non-relative to own/occupy this house in its 93 years. The last resident was born in this house & lived his whole life here. And he passed away in his bed here, with his dog beside him on the bed. Very interesting take on it, Cats.

I think maybe this time, I won't wipe it off -- maybe see if it develops into any sort of shape. q25

Well done Cats! That was my first thot! If you've wiped it off and it comes back..I bet it shows you something perhaps. Very cool, let us know!

Just imagine -- I could be on eBay trying to sell part of my wall that has an image of ?????? on it!
