Three days ago we had a yearling deer try to jump 1 of our fences.  They usually have no problem, but unfortunately this guy didn't make it.  We have mostly cow panel fences and somehow he got 1 of his hind legs caught in a panel.  I don't know how long he had been there, but as soon as we saw him we of course tried to free him.  Hubby couldn't cut the wire so he used his torch to cut thru the wire.  The poor deer was pretty good and didn't fight too much.  As soon as he was free, he fell to the ground.  He couldn't use his hind leg, but the minute he layed there he turned and looked right at us.  I think he was actually thanking us for helping him.  He crawled off into the brush.  Hubby kept an eye on him as we didn't him to suffer, but we wanted to give him a chance to make it if he could.  Well, today he checked on him and he had just died.  I feel SO bad for him.  We brought him home, hubby skinned him and we cut the meat up to cook for our dogs.  I am going to try to tan his beautiful hide.   Anyway, I have this urge to take his beautiful head and bury it out in 'his' woods.  I just want to kinda thank him for what he has given us.  Hope this doesn't sound dumb, it's just something I feel I have to do.
Pam

Not dumb at all.  It seems right to honor his Spirit.

Do whatever feels right. Putting him to use is honoring the animal if you ask me, I hate to see waste.

You have honored him in such a beautiful way.  Do bury his head to feed Mother Earth and honor his light.  By tanning his hide you honor his youth and beauty, by feeding his flesh to the dogs you perpetuate his life by feeding the life of others.
It is a cycle a spiral, Spirit put them here for our use and their innate beauty, you saved his honor with a good quiet death, not one of tortured fear.  You did what you did in beauty as we say.
