I've been experiencing this for several months now....maybe you folks have some idea/sugestion as to what's what? It isn't really a dream interpretation I'm looking for, this is sort of an "after dream" thing.
Sometimes when I wake up after a particularly disturbing/frightening dream, I'm laying in bed, half-awake, half=asleep. I hear a series of knocks. Don't know if it is on the door, but the first time it happened, it was so loud, Ursa starting barking like crazy, jumped off the bed & ran to the kitchen door, barking all the way.
I jumped up to follow her, thinking there was someone at the door in the middle of the night. There was no one. No where. Hearts beating fast, we went back to bed and didn't hear it again that night.
Since then, the "knocking" is more muted, but I just heard it the other night after waking from a really disturbing dream. Heard it as plain as day --- thump. thump. (then longish pause, maybe 5-7 seconds) then another thump. Only happens after bad dreams.
Sometimes, there is only one sequence of thumps. Sometimes 2 or 3 sequences. But it's always the same rhythm. It scares the heck out of me when I realize it's there.
Any ideas on this? Anybody? It's only happened this year. -- TT

Debs - It's the same place I've lived for almost a decade. I've researched the house. It was built pre-Civil War & may have been part of the Underground Railroad.
It was the house and store for a grist mill over the years. My kitchen was the original store for the mill & my bedroom was a storeroom for grain. Native Indians came here in lean years, seeking food. It was one of the first houses built in the area. It served as a polling place in elections long ago. I know more, but I don't want to make you all listen.
The earliest date I've found for the house is 1802, possibly 1798. So, yeah, it's been here a while. And I'm sure many souls have come & gone. But after 9 years of silence, now I have this.
Owl's Flight -- There is no feeling of comfort associated with it. It is seriously chilling. I have wondered on different occassions if it was some guide, but, no, it's just scarey!

Don't forget that sometimes Spirit can just leave sort of a "memory imprint" on a place when that memory is very strong........Often times it's believed that most "ghosts" that are seen are actually just the imprint. Usually, if that is the case, the "ghost" is seen or heard but is totally unaware of the live physical person in front of them!
Considering how old you house is, I am not surprised that you have the "memory imprints" ........ You may consider smudging the place and clearing all that STUFF out!
Debs probably can recommend some stone to use with the smudging process as well.........
